I spent quite a few hours moving snow this week. I have great equipment to do it with. I work for this friend and he calls me whenever he needs me. Now it is sunny and a lot of the snow has been melting. I heard we might get more in the next couple of days. That will mean more work for me. I can always use the money :0)

These individual little cakes are amazing and ready to eat in one minute! They are perfect
for whenever you feel like a treat without all the fat and calories that cake can have. Genius idea!

INGREDIENTS:
1 box Angel Food Cake Mix
1 box Cake Mix - Any Flavor
2 Tbsp Water
Makes 1 serving.

DIRECTIONS:
In a ziploc bag, combine the two cake mixes together and mix well. For each individual cake serving, take out 3 Tablespoons of the cake mix combination and mix it with 2 Tablespoons of water in a small microwave-safe container. Microwave on high for 1 minute, and you have
your own instant individual little cake!

KEEP remaining cake mixture stored in the ziploc bag and use whenever you feel like a treat! You can top each cake with a dollop of fat free whipped topping and/or some fresh fruit.

Helpful Tips:
This recipe is called 3, 2, 1 Cake because all you need to remember is
"3 tablespoons mix, 2 tablespoons water, 1 minute in the microwave!"

TRY various flavors of cake mix like carrot, red velvet, pineapple, lemon, orange, etc. Just remember that one of the mixes has to be the angel food mix; the other is your choice.
The flavor possibilities are endless!

NOTES:
The best thing is, you open both cake mixes into a gallon storage bag, one that 'zip locks' or 'self-seals', or a container that seals tightly, shake the two cake mixes to blend and then make the recipe. Storage of mix is simple, put it on a shelf. No need to refrigerate, since the mix is dry. Always remember, that one of the cake mixes MUST be Angel Food. The other can be any flavor. The Angel Food is the cake mix that has the egg whites in it. So, if, anyone is allergic to egg whites, DO NOT serve this recipe.

Snowing and Blowing

Looks like winter might just be sneaking up on us. It has been a great year up till now. I don't remember a winter like this without snow. But the weatherman says we can look for a bunch maybe on Friday. They are also watching what could be a real big snowstorm on Monday and Tuesday. I hope not, or there goes Taco Tuesday again. It was snowing and blowing so hard all morning my sister decided she better stay home. First time in months that she has had to stay home due to weather. I wish it could stay nice till Spring and as they say, then warm up.

One More Time

The local Taco Johns has taco Tuesday every Tuesday. The weather has been so great for January that my sister and I have tacos and churros every Tuesday. She has to drive 12 miles to where I live so if the roads are bad it means no tacos that day. Thursday we're going to drive down to Iowa Falls for lunch and a visit with one of our younger sisters. The last sister lives 300 miles from here so having lunch with her is out. Who knows maybe next summer it will come together and we'll all four get together for a good long visit. Right now we'll see what next Tuesday looks like.

Christmas Pictures

Here is a picture of my sister and some of her family. Her family has really grown in the last few years. She has 14 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. But not only that but No. 13 is on the way for February and she just found out No. 14 is due close to her birthday in August. It would be neat if the baby was born on her birthday. It is possible.

Making Plans for Wedding

Pictured here is my sister and her grandson talking over his plans for his wedding next summer. It will be a neat wedding out in Colorado so will make a great trip for her to go to the wedding. She hasn't been out in the mountains for years and loves them. We have some friends and relatives living in Colorado but we never get out there. It is just too far to drive and I don't want to fly either so it is nice to for her to have her kids take her along with them. That way she doesn't have to either drive or fly.

Funeral Visitation

I went to my brother-in-laws funeral visitation in September. A niece was snapping all kinds of pictures. My younger sister was there and she got a picture of the two of us. It turned out pretty good. We should have gotten one with my older sister too but guess no one thought of that.

Great Uncle

I am great uncle to 12 of my sister's great grandchildren. Here is a picture of the latest one born in November. She says No. 13 is on the way in February and will be a little girl. None of them live near me so I don't get to see them except in pictures most of the time. I don't get around the stores where they shop either or I would run into them now and then. The family is really growing.

Trade Show Booths

I have been to many trade shows and what really catches my attention are the trade show booths. They certainly are the most important part of the show and the trade skirts catch your eye right away if they have a bright distinguishing logo on them. Also banner stands are another way to catch customers attention. However, if those in charge of the trade show booths want something more easy, yet colorful and spectacular to catch everyone's eyes, they can use pipe and drape. These can be set up in a "L" shape and using bright colors will immediately capture the attention of everyone passing by. I have seen most all of these displays at trade shows and I love the colors and bright logos.

Two Weeks Left

Christmas is just around the corner now and it's cold enough to make you think you're at the north pole. Santa will have to bring us back with the toys. I have to swing by the grocery store for provisions or starve. I hate the thought of even going out because my bad lungs will scream about the cold and make me wish I stayed inside. Lots of things to do to pass the time. I have about 20 things I want to read on various subjects of interest to me. Any regular time I try to read I get sleepy and have to quit. Today is one of those days I can read a long time and just get it done. Usually when I really feel like reading, someone calls and needs my help right away or sooner. Well, like I just said, there goes the phone and my friend needs my help so see ya later.

Light Snow

The other day the weatherman said a little rain and maybe some light snow but that all missed us. Then a few days later we got freezing rain and they topped it off with about 8 inches of snow. I guess they call that payback since the first 2 or 3 storms missed us. It's now noon and the temps up to 15 degrees and I think 18 is supposed to be the day's high. We've got a very light snow in the air now that we don't need around here unless you ask a farmer. They all say the ground is so dry that it could be a bad year for crops. The weather people are predicting a drought this summer. If that happens the poor farmers will have to live on some of the profits they've had the last few years with the bumper crops.The ones that suffer the most are retiree's that don't have a pension to back up their Social Security. We will get a raise this year of maybe $15 or $20 a month after they get done messing with it. While congress will get $1500 to $2000 a month for a raise, it just doesn't seem right. Hey, that's what life's all about.

Celebration Time

Thanksgiving time is a great time to celebrate and give thanks for just being alive. I was invited to my daughter's house and had a fabulous meal and left later still stuffed to the chin. Food always tastes better when you have a get together with family and friends. My daughter is a great cook and I know how much love goes into every dish she makes. There were others that helped like peel potatoes and cut up veggies but she was the boss and did all the pan handling herself. She lives on an acreage south of town a few miles so we had the fun of checking out her horses, goat and chickens. The good part of that is I don't go without eggs anymore and you sure can't beat the price and freshness. She bought the farm 12 years ago and fulfilled a lifelong dream of hers. She's a trucker like I used to be and has been doing it for 25 years and is good at it. That's one of the problems with getting old is you miss the things you used to do but that's what life's all about.

Nephew

I have a brand new nephew. He decided to make his appearance about 10 days early. I guess he wanted his own special birthday. He is a cute little guy as you can see. His little brother and sister are really excited to get him home from the hospital. I hear that might be tomorrow afternoon. They got to go to the hospital with their grandpa and grammy to see their new brother and they were really excited.

It's Coming

It got up to 40 degrees today and now at 4:30 it's down to 32. The weather people say 51 for Saturday but rain with snow mix at the same time. That means it will melt as soon as it touches the ground and we won't worry about it. What the big deal is if it can rain with snow mixed into it then it can just snow without the rain. So that means get the shovels and snow blowers ready because it's coming. There isn't anything we can do about it except wait and watch and just plain be ready for everything. I can take about everything they throw at us except freezing rain, then I want to stay home and inside. Get ready, winter isn't here by the calendar but it's close enough to blow ice cold air down your neck.

My wife was a big woman and she loved to get new clothes. The problem was that no matter where she went it seemed like all the clothes were made for small women. It's the 13th of November and no snow yet. We've had some very cold air that made it hard to breathe. I'll tell you that getting snow isn't one of my happier moments. Goodbye Leaves

One sure sign that winter isn't far away is the leaves are about gone. It's hard to figure some trees are totally bare and then some have all their leaves yet. I know the lot managers are going all the time cleaning them up so the park looks good.I live 1/2 block from the lake and the wind comes around the building behind my mobile home and blows all my leaves across the road. Fall Time

The leaves are everywhere both scattered around and in piles for bagging. All the neighbors are out raking them up except me. I have enough trouble just walking without a rake in my hands. I'm hoping they'll blow over to the neighbors and get raked up over there. That's usually what happens every year, they rake and I thank them for doing it. Next it will be snow but that's easier to since I can drive, I drive a pickup with a blade and push snow for my friend. I get my driveway cleaned out for free and that's a great help. Me with a shovel is like me with a rake and that's really something funny to watch.

Baby It's Cold Outside

Just when you think we might have some Indian summer, the weather turns on us. It got way below freezing and another blanket felt very good. Then I had to uncover the air conditioner and get it running again because it was too warm. Now it is freezing at night and in the 60's daytime. I wish it would stay this way all winter but I know better living in Iowa. I heard they had snow flurries north of us a few days ago. That's too close.

My sister is all excited because her granddaughter is going to have her third baby next month. It's been so warm that we got a false sense of security. The nights have been down in the 30's but days are still in the 60's and 70's so here we go again. Before long the temperature will drop and everything will turn white. I'll get to help my friend push his driveways out and he will do mine for me. I'm at the point that a power snowblower and shovel just don't work for me anymore. I fall down to easy and don't need ice and snow to do it. It's going to be here soon enough so no sense worrying about it. Whatever happens just enjoy the best you can and if you're older like me just stay inside whenever you can.

New Kittens

We have always had a cat. But kittens are the most fun of all. My one cat is 20 years old and way past her life expectancy but she is doing ok. It is probably because she gets such great care from me. I also have a younger cat that is a lot of fun. Here you see my sister's great grandsons with some new kittens. They live on an acreage and everything is new to them. They love the kittens and have some rabbits too.

Weather Change

Wow, what's going on around here? The temps have been in the 70's and 80's for months and now we've had 2 nights at 28 degrees and a couple more in the 30's. The daytime temps have been 50's and 60's and boy what a change that is. I guess it's God's way of saying cold weather is coming so if you have repairs to do better get at them. I have a couple friends that are coming over and help me with a couple repairs I need done. Being partially handycapped I can't get down on the floor and do things anymore or I won't get back up until someone comes over and helps me. Right now we have a little light rain off and on but it makes the old bones holler and creak. AH, old age isn't it great.

Mowing Grass

Well we are finally getting some rain at last. The grass is beginning to grow again before it goes into hibernation. I make a little money on the side by mowing for a friend. Why do they call old age the golden years ? I think it's because when you get old and out of the workforce you lose your rights. The people with the gold make the rules and we have to live by them. So I guess that would be a reason to call those years golden but it's really only for the rich. Everyone I know that worked and paid taxes for 50 or 60 years usually have some illness that uses up any savings they may have been able to save. These people like myself wind up living from Social Security check from month to month. There isn't any leeway so you can't plan a trip or big dinner for your family because there's no extra money. The politicians keep spending money like water but why not. They're not the ones that have had to go without a cost of living increase in their paycheck for the last 3 years. The seniors are the ones who suffer from year to year until they die. I personally would like to see these government people lose their big checks and fabulous retirement packages. The best thing that could happen for this country is to vote out everyone that's in office now and start over. Maybe we could actually elect people who care about the country and the people in it. It isn't going to get any better until something that drastic happens, just a good old house cleaning.

I must be getting older because I had knee surgery a year ago and still have pain in it. My mobility has gotten so bad I stagger all over and need a cane for support. The other day I got a new walker with wheels and brakes. It also has a seat to sit and rest when I get tired which is often because my lungs are shot. Years of smoking and hauling high dust truckloads and breathing the dust has left me with 25% of my lungs. They call these the golden years and now I know, that if you have a bunch of gold then they're a whole lot better.

I usually have a job mowing grass for my friend every week. It's been so hot and dry the grass just isn't growing like it should. This is the only way I can earn a few dollars to help with my nessessities being on limited disability Social Security. The government gave themselves a cost of living raise every year. When it comes to us that live on S.S. as our only support we could really use a raise. We haven't had one for 3 years but the congressmen that earn over $100,000 plus a year always get one, GO FIGURE. I guess they have a rule that if you're old you go to the end of the line. If they would put back the money they robbed from S.S. then S.S. would be good and healthy.

At last we are having beautiful weather. The sky is blue with no clouds. The temperature is 70. It has been great to have the windows open and get some fresh air in. It has also been nice to go outside and be able to breathe because the humidity is way down. I love this kind of weather. I wish we could have it all the time.

I had knee surgery to replace a bad knee and it's been almost a year now. Ever since the surgery my voice has gotten weaker and raspy to the point people can't hear me sometimes or can't understand me. I hate not being able to carry on a conversation with my friends. So tomorrow I'll go in to throat specialist and see why I can't talk out loud. The doctor said it might be mental problem too. So the neurologist will be the next stop. If I get that far maybe they can figure out why my new knee is still giving me pain and my mobility is bad too. I guess we start tomorrow and go from there to see what happens.

The park owners moved in a new14x50 trailer house and finally sold it. Now a tennant in the front row wanted to sell his old trailer and management offered him $5,000 and said that it was just junk. He tore a beatiful inclosed porch off of it and pulled it out of the lot. Now the landlord is moving a 45 foot double wide in on that lot. There's only going to be about 5 feet on either side of it. I think it's too cramped up in that space but what do I know. He's the landlord and I'm just a peon in the kingdom.

My neighbor borrows my lawnmower and she mows my lawn for me since I have trouble walking. It's very nice of her to do that for me. We live in a mobile home park so the lawns aren't very big but management still wants it mowed every week. Since my neighbor is a much younger person and in good health but without a mower it works out good. She's happy the landlord's happy and I'm happy so you can't complain about that.

Predictions of rain have been on the news every night but we haven't seen any of it. Early in the morning we get a few sprinkles to get the driveway wet then stops and dries up again. Towns a hundred miles east of here got 9 inches the other night and we didn't see a drop. I have a couple lawns I mow for people and without rain it just doesn't grow. My Sister's Dog

Yesterday, my sister and her husband had to put their little pet dog, Holly, to sleep. It was hard taking her to the Vet knowing she wasn't coming home again. But she didn't feel well and had liver problems and didn't eat like she should. She slept a lot and wasn't the playful little dog she always was. My sister says she was the best dog they ever had and they won't get another one. She was a little Boston Terrier and would play and never bite anyone. You could even take away her food under her nose and she wouldn't do a thing about it. Most dogs would take your hand off. They will miss her greatly.

Just when you think you're getting a break it comes back again. We had a week of middle to high 90's and then cooled to middle 80's and felt good but now the heat and extreme humidity is back. My friend and boss says he won't let me mow in the heat for fear of heat stroke. I have a few health problems, one of which is short of breath because of lung capacity. People worry about me a lot more than I do, as long as I feel good I'll do whatever I have to. Most of the time they don't think I can handle it when I really can.One of these days the heat wave will be over and we'll be back to pushing snow wishing it would warm up. Well like they say about Iowa weather, If you don't like it hang around because it'll change.

This is my sister, her husband and one of their twin daughters. They had been out to eat at a unique little restaurant. Afterwards, their daughter wanted a picture with them. Her husband took the pictures. My brother-in-law used to raise hogs so thought this was quite an appropriate background. The cameras today really take the best pictures don't they. This is the time of year I can live without. The town I live in goes all out for the 4th of July. Being a town on a lake they celebrate with carnival and the whole 9 yards. The population of town is about 10,000 and when the party starts it increases to right at 40,000 every year. The tourists act like they live here and expect someone else to clean up after them. It really gets to be a pain in the behind. Running stop signs is bad enough but if they're coming at you, then you have to move over and give them room. There is one really good part of the whole thing and that's when they all go back home and the town gets back to normal.

We went out to this big farm that grows strawberries and many other fresh vegetables. We got a bunch of strawberries and came home and made strawberry shortcake with whipped cream and ice cream. My husband came home the other night after a long day at work and took me out to a late dinner, where he told me that got us two tickets to fly overseas soon. We are going to take a tour, and I can't even describe how happy I was at the table tonight. That was a most incredible date, I must say. Since then, that's all I can think about! Can you blame me? I really don't know how I got this lucky. My husband and I were just talking about going somewhere now that it's a little warmer...I had no idea this was coming.

Pretty Bubbles

I remember when we were kids and had a little jar of bubble stuff and used to try and make as many bubbles as we could. Now they have stuff to make big bubbles and as you can see here these little kids are having a great time chasing them. If you're like me and live in a mobile home only half a block from a lake you'll know what I mean. People drive through all day looking for a trailor to buy. If it's not priced out of this world it will sell quickly. People buy them and come in every spring and summer and take over like they own it. Out of 50 or so units in the park only about 20 are year round tennants. The biggest thing we have to look forward to is Fall when they all leave and the park is quiet again. Winter isn't that great either because the guy that moves snow is 89 years old. His snow removal leaves a lot to be desired. But I'm retired so I don't have to go anywhere anyway.

Real good fishing right now but it's to hot to be out on the water unless you want to burn up. The younger generation is laying out on the beach getting tans and us old people are staying in where it's cool. I really don't mind the heat as everyone thinks I should since I have emphasema and trouble breathing. Funny how it works - dry heat isn't as bad as high humidity and heat. It's the same way with the winters and cold weather. You just have to figure it out every day.

It's been in the 90's for a week and I mean high 90's. Tomorrow storms are moving in and they're saying 70's for next 4 days so it will be a welcome relief. What's funny is this is the first part of June not the middle of July or August when it's supposed to really be hot. That's what has me worried because if it's so hot now, the next month or two could be real killers for heat. It's too bad we can't bottle it for winter and save on the heat bill.

Mowing's Done

The rain held off for 2 days and I got one lot mowed. Then after a light shower I waited until 11:00 with 70 degrees and wind blowing and got the other lot mowed. Now I can relax until next week and with no rain do it all again. At least I have a little something to do with the mowing. Pushing snow you have to have snow but in the summer you always have rain.

Well I guess it's here at last but why so cool then hot then cool? The temperatures seem to fluxuate something fierce. From the 40's to the 90's and that's quite a jump. You don't know wether to wear shorts and tshirt or sweat pants and sweater. Real windy yesterday and almost 90 but today it's only 70 with the wind still blowing, Go Figure. Well it quit raining long enough to get all the grass mowed. The bad thing was the mowed kept shutting down. When it set for a while it would start and run fine. About 1/2 hour later it would quit again and not start until it had set for a while. The mechanic at John Deere said not to use gas-o0hol in the mower because it runs to hot. So after draining the rest of the gas out he put straight unleaded and it ran just fine all through the south lot mowing.

They also went to Mt. Rushmore and saw a great deal of beautiful country. They are planning on going again next year. They really love it there. The grass needs to be mowed but it's raining outside. You know you can't mow wet grass so you wait. The sun comes out and dries things up for a day, that's good. Then before you can get the mower out it starts to rain. So what happens, you mow then it rains. It rains then in time you mow. You know how it goes when you want something. Well, as I got older I couldn't wait for retiement to sit back and hunt and fish. I just happen to live in Clear Lake , Iowa where the walleyes are great and the yellow bass taste so good you could eat them every day and twice on Sunday. Guess what? I retired and had knee surgery and several other things go bad and I'm so unsteady I can't maneuver the bank to get down to the lake so there goes fishing. The fields I used to walk for hours pheasant hunting I lose my balance and fall a lot so there goes hunting. The neighbors son is graduating this weekend. His grandmother is having a big brunch on Sunday and invited me it it. Wednesday we set an all time high at 94 degrees then Thursday it was in the 70's. Today it barely made it to 60 and we've had rain the last 2 nights. My Sister's Pet

This is my sister's dog. She is a little Boston Terrier. She weighs about 21 lbs. She is trying out a new dog food. She loves it. My sister has been trying to help her gain weight and she has gained 2 pounds so she is making headway with her. I have cats myself. It's Finally Dry

The grass has dried out enough to get it mowed. I went out yesterday and mowed the storage lot and it really looks good. Today they're talking more rain tonight and tomorrow and again Sunday and Monday so mowing will have to wait. Now that it's been cut it will grow faster and I'll be mowing every week or so and earn a few dollars. It's not a lot but it does buy milk and bread and maybe eggs too. It is so nice to look out the window and see everything green and pretty instead of being buried under a foot of snow. Soon we'll be eating fresh fish caught in the lake a half block away from my house. Summer is here at last.

I have always said that you just can't beat a good sandwich. My sister knows how much I enjoy a good sandwich. It all depends on what you put on it. Any one can put together peanut butter and jelly. The Big Hill

Spending time with friends and family in the Winter time has always been my favorite thing to do since I was a little girl. Today I'm off work, and it is snowing gently outside my window. I call up my two girlfriends, Hannah and Leanne. I ask them if they would like to go sledding down the big hill in my old neighborhood. We all grew up together and did this every winter. Even though we are in our late twenties now, we still love the adventure of going back to a place and time where everything was so simple. They agreed to meet me there. I grab my sled from the garage and load it into my car. I remember I need to set my home security alarm (ADT PULSE), so I run back inside and turn it on. I then jump in my car and go meet the girls on the hill. We have an amazing time taking turns sledding down the hill then running up and doing it again. When we get tired, we all decide to go have a cup of coffee at Hannah's house and watch a movie. I'd have to say this was a wonderful winter day with great friends and memories.

Everybody kows that they will age as the years go by. That's just a well known fact and nobody can avoid it unless they die prematurely. There's justone thing wrong with that and that is we don't come with a warranty and parts wear out. The bad thingis they don't wear out until you get old enough to really start to enjoy life. I'm here to tell you fun isn't that much fun if you can't get around like the rest of your friends. The old saying goes, If I had know I would live this long, I would have taken better care of my body when I was young, And how true that is, All men will lift things that they should have had help with. When they get older they have back problems big time. I used to jump off semi trailers and out of the cab to the ground. By the time I was sixty my knees were shot and hips not that far behind. So I say go easy when you're young so you can have something left when you're older.

This last month we have had 50's and 60's for temps. The other day it dropped into the twentys and snowed about 3 inches. Really wet heavy snow covered everything when I got up in the morning. After weks of warm temps we kind of got used to wearing lighter clothes. The cold was like winter was back and lots of people I know have light colds and sniffles. My sinus has been driving me crazy with the drip drip drip. The snow is all but gone and warm temps are coming by the weekend so I guess we'll live.

Here you see two of my great grand nephews having a good time together. They are ages 1 and 3 and the one year old has been walking now for a few months. They really have a great time playing together. They moved onto an acreage and they have lots of room to play outside now. Right now it's 30 degrees outside and yesterday we had a little snow mix with rain. The wind is 30 MPH and it's cold out there. I was very happy with the 50's and 60's we have been having the last couple of weeks. Oh well the last time I looked the weather control wasn't here anywhere on my desk so I guess it isn't my fault. Spring is here and the grass will soon be ready to mow. Being disabled to a point the only thing I can do anymore is ride a John Deere mowerto help my friend. I can't walk behind my old push mower or snow blower anymore either. It is so nice seeing everything getting greener and greener with the temps hitting the 60's plus again instead of below.I've tried hot and tried cold and must admit I like hot better. When you live in Iowa if you don't like the weather just hang around because it will change. The weather we have right now is about perfect but it won't stay that way, OH WELL THAT'S LIFE.
