Indian summer

This is what we used to call Indian summer. The weather is into November but the temperatures are more like spring. I'm talking high 50's to middle 60's and that's really good. The warm weather keeps our heat bills from going wild before it really gets cold. Nobody can survive 5 months of extreme heating bills and especially us senior citizens on Social security. Last year I just about went under when my bill tripled and the way they talk it's going to happen again. I'd like to know what happened to those abundent supplies they said they had. As soon as cold weather gets here and we don't have but 2 choices, ( Stay warm or freeze ) the cost of gas goes up. The oil companies are finally taking less profits and still making more than they need. I wonder if the Gas & light companies took less profits wound they go bankrupt. I sure wish they would try it once.

Tomorrow we will once again be invaded by all kinds of creatures walking the streets begging.If you give them a treat they will go away and leave you unharmed. It's anybodys guess what would happen if they aren't treated right. Some of them I think could be handled but there are some that are so scary I fear for the people that chase them away. Just keep your eyes open and you will see just how many there are out there so just be careful and watch the shadows for surprises.

Prevention First

I went in and got my flu shop today and I feel much better now. I've gotten one for the last 6 years and boy I'm glad I did. I have respiretory desease and flu or even a bad cold would really take it's toll on me. My doctor tells me I should also have a pneumonia shot too.With only 25% of my lung capacity you can't take many chances. I just say whatever you say I don't mind the needles. I haven't had a cold or flu for 6 years so I'm a believer in flu shots especially for senior citizens.

It's Springtime Again

Holy Mackeral there it feels like spring again. The temps got into the low 50's and should see high 50's or low 60's tomorrow. I'm going to try to get the rest of the yard work done while it's warm. It looks like 50's all week for right now but this is Iowa and things change really easy. Right now we will take anything that looks like warm weather that we can get. It won't be long and we won't have a choice it will be all cold. Every year I get more tired of cold weather but can't afford to move to a warmer climate.

Holiday Shopping Promotions

I just can't believe how late in the year it is. Thanksgiving coming up and Christmas is right around the corner. The biggest shopping day of the year is the day after Thanksgiving or what they call Black Friday. It seems like every store that is in business has specials just for the early shoppers. You see hundreds and thousands of people running all over The malls in your town. That says nothing for the thousands that head for the mega malls hundreds of miles from home. I used to do that but with my mobility getting worse I can't get around like I used to. The big thing is I found a better way to shop like at Ace Hardware or maybe bestbuy.com, circuit city.com, they're all there right at your fingertips. Hey, by shopping from home you even save the money you would have spent on gas even though it's getting cheaper too. Saving Energy

When I say Energy I mean my energy that I would have used raking leaves. Yesterday the wind came through here and blew the leaves in my yard into the next county. What a day with wind at 35 MPH and gusts up to 60 MPH. Everything that wasn't nailed down wound up in the neighbors yard. There's still a lot of work outside to do with picking up branches that came off the trees. It has to be cleaned up or the snow blower will have some problems getting through.
