Our New Kitchen

Thanks to guest blogger Morgan Reyess.
For ten years, we lived with a hodgepodge collection of kitchen cabinets. Some were here when we originally moved in, and the others we picked up at a local building supplies auction with the idea of remodeling the kitchen ourselves. The wall between the kitchen and dining room was removed making one large room out of two smaller rooms. Then the wall that had no cabinets was filled with our shiny new cabinets bought at the auction.
Overtime, those cabinets never got the replacement doors they needed to make the job complete. Our air conditioning also needed to be repaired. In addition, we couldn't match the cabinets with any currently sold in stores to replace the other laminated versions that originally made up our kitchen. Our affordable cabinet collection become a temporary storage solution until we could arrange to have a fully matched set installed by a professional.
This finally was accomplished last summer. We first got HVAC service from SEARS to fix our AC. We selected the new cabinets we wanted to install, called a professional contractor and began the process of replacing the entire kitchen with new cabinets. Since our contractor had other work, the remodel took far longer than had been originally planned. Months later, we installed the last five cabinets ourselves. There are a few still in need of handles, and the trim work has been lost in the shuffle, but we have a much more functional, storage-rich, beautiful kitchen than when we bought the house.
