Cold and Rainy

It is a cold 55 degree day today. It rained during the night and we got about another 1/2" of rain. They say the water levels in the aquafers are very low and we need all the rain we can get because we didn't get snow this winter. We got about 14" of snow compared to snow in the 40 inch range. If we don't get enough rain, the state could actually run out of water. I don't remember this ever happening before but it probably has. The farmers are very happy to see the rain. It is a little too early to plant yet even though they are getting overanxious too plant.

Light Snow

The other day the weatherman said a little rain and maybe some light snow but that all missed us. Then a few days later we got freezing rain and they topped it off with about 8 inches of snow. I guess they call that payback since the first 2 or 3 storms missed us. It's now noon and the temps up to 15 degrees and I think 18 is supposed to be the day's high. We've got a very light snow in the air now that we don't need around here unless you ask a farmer. They all say the ground is so dry that it could be a bad year for crops. The weather people are predicting a drought this summer. If that happens the poor farmers will have to live on some of the profits they've had the last few years with the bumper crops. The ones that suffer the most are retiree's that don't have a pension to back up their Social Security. We will get a raise this year of maybe $15 or $20 a month after they get done messing with it. While congress will get $1500 to $2000 a month for a raise, it just doesn't seem right. Hey, that's what life's all about.
