PSA Tests

It is very important for men 50 years and older to get regular PSA tests for prostate cancer. My brother-in-law took 42 radiation treatments and 8 years later his PSA went up again. Now they are giving him hormone shots and he went in for his first checkup after the shot. He got a great report. His PSA is 0.07 which is practically nothing. He doesn't even need the shot on his next checkup in 3 months. That is really good news.

On the way home they talked to a friend who told them of a 51 year old that went in for his PSA and it was already too late. It had spread to his bones. He took chemo and his PSA is still 33. The normal PSA is 0 - 4 so you can see his is way out of control. That is very young to have such a bad case. There is really no hope for him. So if you haven't had your PSA checked yet, you better get it done as soon as possible.

PSA Tests

My brother-in-law is going in again on Wednesday to have his PSA checked. I think it is a good idea for any man over 40 to have his checked. It seems like younger and younger men are getting prostate cancer and it has no symptoms. If it gets too far along and into the bones, it is pretty much hopeless. He has had 42 radiations treatments back in 2000 and now his PSA is rising again. They don't do anything till it gets to 10 or 12 and then hewould have to have radioactive pellets put into his stomach area. It's not fun. So if any of you think you should be checked - do it.
