Keep Austin Weird

I appreciate the guest post, Jamie Guy

They say “Keep Austin Weird”, so I intend to do just that by putting my mark on this town with the “coordinated individualism” of my artwork. For those of you who know me, you know I strive to stand out. From my dreads and tattoos, to my music taste and political viewpoints, I don’t mind being a little “off”. I moved to Austin last year to make my mark as a potter and fully expected to fall right into place. This city is a little tougher than I had expected. After a week of hooking up utilities, trying to Shop electricity rates TEXAS for the best price, and trying to find the perfect place for my pottery wheel, I finally had time to attempt to meet new people in the community. Turns out, there are a lot of “odd birds” like me trying to do the same things with their life in Austin. It was a long road getting my name out there, but now I share a studio space with an oil painter and we have a monthly gallery that pays all my bills in one weekend. Success!
