More Winter

Well 6 more weeks and the weather should clear up and get warm. That's what we're all hoping for because enough is enough. This has been a very cold winter so far and the only ones happy about it is the power companies. Everything I've read says there's a huge reserve of natural gas and all the wind generaters are putting out electricity. Why can't the power companies cut us some slack on our monthly bills. I just gigure when you're used to making several billion dollars in profits you just can't giving anything back to the people. Oh well, who knows, someday?

I'm Still Here

Hey, not by choice as you probably know. I didn't win the lottery Wednesday night so I'll just have to try again Saturday and see if that's better. Somebody has to win and I could really use it. I'd like to see what it's like to be stinking rich one day and broke a year later like so many other winners have done. Well my buddies are ready to try again and we're saving our pop and beer cans to sell for cash to buy tickets with.

Today's The Day

My friend stops anddrinks a beer with me about once a week. When he stops he brings me a bunch of empty pop cans and bottles. I take all of them and redeam them and iuse the money for a lottery ticket. The powerball drawing is tonight and we decided that tonight we're going to win something. The last 15 drawings we only matched 1 number so it's time to win. Everyone will get a little even if it isn't the jackpot. I think something would be nice but of course I would take the jackpot and share it too.

The Bailout

I wish the government would just give every adult citizen of these United States a check for say $25,000. I know that would solve all of my problems and probably over 50% of the rest of the country. The other 50% would have a great head start on their lives. I wonder if that would come to more than 700 billion dollars. Think of all the people that it would really help. Right now the way it looks is the CEO's are the only ones who are going to gain anything. Well, Barack I hope you have a plan better than the guy that just left. Think about the little guy first.

One More Time

Hey guess what, we had 3 days above zero and people were running to the stores like they were crazy. I even got my car washed today but tomorrow it's heading below zero again so I may not get in it. That would be cute to wash it so it looks good and then not get the doors open so you can show people you do wash it. I wasn't the only one with the idea because there were a lot getting washed today. If my doors freeze shut at least I won't be alone there will be lots ofthem out there.

Getting Old's Tough

When I say tough I mean by the time you get one thing figured out, somebody has to upgrade it so you start over again. There are somany things to learn aboutthe computer I'll never live long enough to learn half of them. I have a lot of friends that say they will show mehow to do things on the old Pute but never have the time. The thing that's agravating is when they want something done for them who do they call. They say oh I'm sorry I was going to help you and I got so busy I just forgot. I'll be over Friday but they never say which Friday. I do have a couple really good friends that are always there for me and never want more than a beer or two.

Extra Income

When you get old enough to retire you find out you need more than social security in order to survive. I enjoy blogging to bring in some much needed income. Last year I was in better shape than I am this year and that's because there were so many more opportunities then this year. With the lack of blog opportunities it brings my earnings down to barely enough to pay bills. This one company I blog for has started cuting the pay for your blogs to little of nothing so even when you do one you don't earn anything. I've been checking around and wonder if they are facing bankruptcy or somethind but nobody seems to know. There's an awful lot of bloggers out here wondering what happened. I know I'm slowly going downhill and I sure don't like being a senior citizen looking at bill collectors taking over everything you have.

New President.

Today a new president was sworn into office to run the country. Everybody thinks it will be so great having a black president and they may be right. The one main thing that will make it great will be if everyone helps get it done. No one man or small group of men is going to make any difference unless everyone stands behind him and gets it done. No matter which president is in office if he stands alone the country will go down the tubes. It'll take a while before we will know how things are going to go but it should be for the better. There are still a lot of men in office that worry about themselves anput on a good front to make you think they are worried about the nation. As long as they get re-elected they're happy because even if they don't do a thing they are working for 6 years. What A Joker

I had been out yesterday and snow was blowing very bad, You couldn't see across the road in some places. I decided to spend the rest of the day in the house which I thought was an inteligent idea. Well anyway I was sitting here when my buddy called and asked if I wanted to go to the Casino. I said what Casino I can't see my neighbors house. He started laughing and said he was about 8 miles from home and praying he would make it. He just wanted to have some fun with me. I said you did that alright because I'd been out and wasn't going again. He thought that was a great idea so maybe next week or something. I said it could happen.

Not That warm Yet

Well today it got into the 20's again but nice breeze blowing that made it feel colder. I really don't mind the really cold weather as long as I don't have to work out in it. When you only have to stay out 10 or 15 minutes it isn't bad. It's when you're out for hoirs at a time with 5 minute warmups. That's what really gets to you and you can't just shake it off. I guess I'm just getting to old for working outside in the cold because I can't take it like I could 50 years ago.

What Plumber ?

I found out last night my drain trap under the sink has rusted through. Today I got the parts needed to fix it but one connection won't seat and stop leaking. I have a lot of problems getting down on the floor for the repairs so I can only go so long. I hate it when that happens but it still has to be done. Since there isn't anyone else to do it I get to crawl around until the pain in my knees gets to bad and then take a break. Tomorrow's another day and I will get it finished. I live alone and the sink can sit for a day or two and not be missed.

What Would You Do ?

I know what I did when temps dropped to an overnight low of 30 below and a high of only 9 below. I stayed inside as much as I could with a fast trip for milk and bread. I thought it was cold yesterday at 3 below for the days high but 9 below really beat that. Thankfully there wasn't a lot of wind or it really would have gotten serious. I wasn't outside more than 40 minutes and most of that was in the car and store. When it gets this cold you can suffer bone chill and then just stand in a hot shower until you quit shaking. I've been there and done that and it's not fun so you try not to repeat it. Best thing is don't go out.

My Next Car

I'm starting to think the next car I should get should be a 3/4 ton pickup with a snow blade on the front. If the rest of my winters are going to be like this one it would a great investment. I'm getting to old to shovel the driveway and it's really to cold to be out snow blowing. When it's this cold you can't stay out running the blower for several hours' I'm to old for that to. Sooo that leavea a 4 wheel drive pickup with a blade. My friend has a snow blade that does everything but run itself. The cost is so far out I would have to take out a big loan. I think the pickup would be cheap in comparison.

Chili Tomorrow

My neighbor is one of those couples that like to get to know everyone they live by. Tomorrow the entire park is invited to their house for chili supper. It should be a good time because they are friendly people and very helpful if you need it. We all live in a trailor park where their daughter and her family livenext to me. Then they live across the road and down 3 units. In the winter there is only about 10 or 12 renters here but in the spring when it starts getting warm there's about 50. The lake is a half block away from my back yard so the fishing is good. Anyhow chili tomorrow That will be good.

Why Is It ?

Why is it when you finally have time to yourself to relax and catch up on a few things you want to do. Someone needs you in a life and death situation. Of course when you stop what you're doing and go over you find out they just wanted a ride somewhere. When that's done there's a few little things that have to be done and you get home about 4 hours later. Don't you just hate it when that happens? How About Now

I was talking before about very cold weather and even colder windchills and I thought of a way to improve the conditions. Let's just start spring now and get it rolling. Two months of winter is more than enough for me. They seem to think we need at least 2 more months but I just can't understand their reasoning. I really believe warm weather is much better than cold. The 2 months of cold weather we've had already has killed off the bugs so we won't have then to contend with for a while and that alone would be worth it. So, why not start spring now?

Blizzard Coming

All the roads around here are 100% snow and ice covered and travel warnings are out. They say 35 MPH wind with 50 MPH gusts are going to make for a bad driving experience. I've driven about 3 1/2 million miles in all weather conditions and the one I hate worse than the rest is ice. I could never figure out why we needed it maybe with the exception of being in a glass. Just not on the roads because that doesn't do anyone any good. The drivers that drivers education is turning out don't have a clue what they're doing. They just think they have a new place to call on their cell phone. That's really really bad.

Hey, Let's Eat

I was invited to dinner last night and was served a delicious steam vegetable tray as we call it. It consists of a huge number of fresh veggies chopped and layered on a foil lined tray. With the veggies there's soms chicken broth and sliced Kielbasa saugage then covered and baked until done. The mixture of all the wonderful flavors of the mixture of veggies creates a tantalizing taste bud expedition into the world of fine dining. When my late wife was alive we served this dish very often and loved it every time. Last night was not only a taste bud treat but a walk down memory lane. Many times I thanked my hostess for such a fine evening and when she reads my post she will be thanked again. Thank You Sis, The Brother

Now That's Pain

It snowed here last and we got about 2 1/4 inches. I got ready to go outside and do battle with it with my trusty snowblower. On the way out to get it I stopped to take my broom and clean off my car since I don't have a garage. Would you believe there was ice waiting for me lurking under that fresh snow. Sure enough I stepped on it and both feet went flying. I went down backwards and landed hard on my back and the back of my head. What a beating I had to take from that ice patch and couldn't do anything about it. Managing to get to my feet I proceded to get the blower out of my storage shed, After removing all the necessary snow needed to get out of the drive I remembered the ice. I got my revenge by spreading ice melt salt all over it and took away it's power over me. Everything will be great as soon as this headache gets over with.

Shopping Today

My friend and I went shopping for a few groceries for each of us. some of the things could only be found in Mason City about 9 miles east of here. The main roads were almost fun to be on but the streets in town were slick and 100% ice covered. I drove professionally for over 40 years and can handle about anything. The thing I dislike the most is freezing rain and ice covered roads. No matter how careful you are the other guy may just have your number. I needed a prescription filled for tomorrow or I would have stayed home. I don't like sliding in the opposite direction from the way I was going. I pulled onto my friends street when we got back and I was very careful. Regardless of that I came around the corner and just kept sliding to the left until I was against the curb. The street looked like a skating rink that the city made by turning on the hydrants until the street was flooded. Not a scratch or gouge anywhere just clear smooth ice from corner to corner. Nice to look at and even skate on but driving is not a good thing.

Get Your Skates

Today we got just a little freezing rain and then it started looking good out. Surprise it wasn't done so after about an hour it started raining. The only thing was it was 2 degrees below freezing and the rain quickly turned to ice. This is everywhere and super slick so you can barely walk on it. I don't walk well anyway so I was hanging on to everything I could reach. I'm very happy to report I didn't fall down once all day. I'm also happy to report I wasn't outside trying to walk around very much. Been There, Done That and that's why I don't intend to do it again if I can help it.
